Follicular cysts

Follicular cyst

Follicular cysts form only at displaced teeth. Their epithelial lining stems from dental sac cells called follicles. Residual cysts are also created odontogenically (especially from radicular or follicular cysts). They frequently grow inconspicuously after removal of the respective teeth in the jaw bone.

Apart from odontogenic cysts there are also soft-tissue cysts, which predominantly occur in the mucosa of the lips or cheek. The mucocele is a saliva or mucous retention cyst, whereby the occlusion of a meatus leads to accumulated secretion.
