Permanent dentition
Milk teeth (dentes decidui)

The dentition of a fully toothed adult consists of 32 permanent teeth, whereby each half of the jaw contains two incisors, one canine, two premolars and three molars. A comparison with the dentition of children will reveal that it not only consists of 20 teeth, but that the milk teeth are smaller and lighter coloured than the permanent teeth. Milk dentition consists of two incisors, one canine and two molars in each jaw half. In other words, milk dentition lacks premolars.
